Healthy Foods For The Summer Season

This entry was posted in General July 21, 2016

After having the hottest day of the year so far, I hope you have all read our blog on ‘Keeping Cool During The Summer Months’, it could have saved you a couple of hours of tossing and turning in bed for the past couple of nights! If you haven’t read it, we suggest you do so to prevent yourself from over heating during the sunny days to come.

As it’s now Summer season and the sun has finally decided to show up, we thought that it would be a good idea to give you some information on some natural, healthy summer foods to try during the summer months. Before we start talking about food, it’s massively important that you’re taking on board plenty of water during the summer, as lots of essential minerals are lost from sweating in the sun. We don’t want you getting dehydrated now do we!

Eating salads that include ingredients such as tomato, onion, carrot, cucumber and peppers are great for the summer! They don’t require cooking, they are easy to make, low in fat, low in calories, have high water content and are good for your health. Salads are also a good source of fibre which is good for digestion and also reduces cholesterol levels… They make you feel full too.

Soups are rich in nutrition and low in calories, making another excellent summer food. Hot soup will make you sweat and cool your inner body by using ingredients such as coriander and mint. Using vegetables and meats like chicken and beef in a soup taste great, and also slowly release energy without getting that stodgy feeling inside.

Fruit is the most beneficial food you can eat in the summer heat. It is packed with water, natural sugars, vitamins, minerals and uses less energy to digest, meaning more energy to enjoy some time in the sun!

Another great food for the summer is, yes you’ve guessed it, nuts! Packed with protein, fibre and essential fats, nuts are one of the season’s best buys. A small portion of unsalted nuts make a vitality-boosting snack, and unlike many other options, provides a mix of valuable vitamins and minerals. All nuts have different nutrition credentials and will offer various health benefits.
